Biography: Dr. Melody Morrison is a pianist, researcher, and educator whose teaching blends classical foundations with modern innovation. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Education with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy from Florida State University, where she also earned a Certificate in Piano Performance. She additionally holds degrees from the University of Idaho and Corban University.
Dr. Morrison has taught a wide range of collegiate courses including class piano, aural skills, music theory, and music appreciation at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø, the University of North Florida, Florida State University, Corban University, and the University of Idaho. She is currently Lecturer of Music at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø and serves as applied piano instructor and dissertation supervisor at Liberty University Online.
A passionate advocate for integrating technology into music education, Dr. Morrison regularly incorporates digital tools and apps to enhance student engagement and learning. She is known for creating custom backing tracks, video tutorials, and interactive resources that support diverse learning styles and foster creativity in the studio and classroom.
Dr. Morrison is actively involved in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), where she serves Vice President for Membership for Florida’s MTNA association (FSMTA). She has presented her research and pedagogical strategies at conferences across the United States and internationally, sharing insights on generational learning, digital innovation, world music, and inclusive teaching practices. Dr. Morrison has also published works which appear in Piano Magazine, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and the Florida Music Director.
In addition to her academic work, Dr. Morrison is active as a collaborative pianist and freelance performer. She has appeared as a soloist with the Washington-Idaho Symphony, the University of Idaho Symphony Orchestra, and the Corban University Symphony Orchestra, and she continues to perform in a variety of musical settings.
Dr. Morrison is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) and was honored with the Clifford Madsen Award at Florida State University in 2022 for exemplifying excellence in music education. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes musical excellence, creativity, and the thoughtful use of technology to inspire and equip today’s music students.
